Chesapeake Challenge Cup

The pairings have been announced for the Chesapeake Challenge Cup this weekend. Our times have changed since they were originally posted. Please check regularly for updated times
To see our division's schedule: click here.

For the Saturday games, players wear white jersey and white socks. Wear blue jersey and black socks for Sunday's scheduled game. Please have both jerseys and sock colors available for all games, in case the players are asked to change.

This Week's Schedule

To get ready for the Chesapeake Challenge Cup tournament, we will practice Monday and Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Great Bridge Middle School.

We had to change days \ location in order to get a lighted field.

The school is located at 441 South Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23322. It is near the corner of Mt. Pleasant Road and Battlefield Blvd.

Pairings \ schedules for the tournament will be completed Monday.

Satruday's game is at 10:30 at TCC, Chesapeake
Wear white jeaseys \ socks and arrive by 10:00 (have blue jersey with you too).

SATRUDAY PARTY
Players, family, etc. are all invited to the team party at 6 p.m. Saturday (followed by Joe's birthday celebration) in the gym at Parkway Christian Center (where we practice). The food will be "potluck" , and everyone should bring a dish and a 2-liter drink. Paper products, ice and dessert is taken care of.

Saturday's (11/8) game is at 2:15 at Churchland Park, behind Churchland Middle School (4051 River Shore Road, Portsmouth, VA 23703)

Players wear blue jerseys and black socks and arrive at 1:45.

End of Season Tournament: Nov. 1-2
The Tidewater Advanced Soccer League (TASL) End of Season Tournament schedule is set. The Monarchs will play three games in "group play." The winners of both group-play groups for the division will face each other in a match to determine the TASL Division Champion. Group winners are determined by points accumulated in the three group-play games (3 points for wins; 1 point for ties).

Monarchs in Chesapeake Challenge Cup

The Monarchs will compete in the 2008 Chesapeake Challenge Cup, a regional tournament played at locations in Chesapeake. The team will play multiple matches during the Nov. 22-23 event. Pairings and game times will be announced in November.

Parents' Meeting

Please plan to attend a quick parents meeting this Friday at the start of practice (5:30 at Sparrow Road). We will talk about some things that are approaching quickly, including opportunities to play in a November regional tournament and indoor soccer league possibilities for the winter.

Reminder: This Saturday's game is at 10:30 at TCC, field 1(please arrive by 10:00). Wear white jerseys and white socks, and bring the blue jersey "just in case."

10/6/08 Updates

PRACTICE START TIME CHANGE
Because of the decrease in daylight hours, we will begin practicing at 5:30 p.m. (instead of 6:00) this week. We will continue to meet on Tuesdays at Parkway Christian Center and Fridays at Sparrow Road.

TECHNICAL TRAINING
Chesapeake United Soccer Club has set their technical training schedule for October. This is supplemental group training provided by the club, like the ones we participated in ealier in the year. The two that do not conflict with our practices are: October 8 and October 22 (both are 4:30 to 5:30 at Centerville Park). These are not mandatory, and we understand that the 4:30 start time makes it difficult to attend. We just wanted you to be aware of the option, in case you are interested in having your player participate.

The team scored on 50% of their shots for the second straight game. Aside from a made free kick, every goal came off a pass.

Game One

The Monarchs had their first game of the season against the NUSC Tigers yesterday. It was much anticipated, as our first scheduled game of the season was postponed due to hurricane effected weather.

The players and parents (I think the parents a little more than the kids) were so pumped up that even the oppressive heat didn't deter big family support on the sidelines and big play and awesome teamwork during the game. The final score was 8 to 2. We look forward to taking on the Portsmouth Swat next weekend. The kids will have practice this week Tuesday and Friday to prepare for this tough opponent, and us parents will spend the week praying for cool temps. on next weekends forecast.

Our Monarchs will be the "Soccer Ball Kids" at the ODU vs. Central Florida soccer game.

Technical training

UPDATED: This Week's Schedule

This week's Monarchs soccer schedule will be a little different:

Tuesday is a Technical Training at Centerville Park at 5 p.m.
Technical trainings are conducted by Chesapeake United Soccer Club periodically (They're covered by the fees you paid and are conducted by expert coaches). All of the club's teams of the same age group participate together and work on skill development. After the one-hour training, we are planning to hold a brief team practice at the same site. We will practice Friday at out normal time and place ( 6 p.m. at Parkway Christian Center).

Brilla camp

Some of the Monarch players are enjoying Brilla soccer camp this week. Even team mascot Kelsey has been giving the other kids a run for their money! Go Monarchs!

This Friday's (July 25) practice is cancelled due to many conflicts.

The biggest one . . . Our coaches (Jerry and Justin) will be getting their "E" coaching licenses. It's a big-time commitment for our kids, with an afternoon session on Friday and all-day sessions on Saturday and Sunday. Thanks!!!!

Preseason conditioning

The Monarchs met for a tough workout on Tuesday. Sprints, pull ups, pole climb, head shots, goalie training and one on one drills. Coach Jerry mixes in fun with all the hard work, making their time together exciting and much anticipated.
