Monarchs notched their fourth shut-out of the eason (7 matches) to remain in a first place tie with Richmond Strikers Premier. The Monarchs face the Strikers next Sunday in Richmond in the season finale. The Monarch defense allowed just one shot on goal, which was saved. The victory was the team's 15th straight in Va. Soccer League play, over two seasons.

Monarchs in Memorial Day Bash



The Monarchs will compete in the Virginia Legacy Memorial Day Bash May 28 - 29 in Williamsburg. The team will play "up" in the U-13/14 division, which offers their first competition in the 11 players-per-side format. See the full schedule here (click).

The Monarchs set each other up all afternoon, with all four goals coming off of assists, including two headers off lobs. Monarchs move to 6-0-0 in league play with two games remaining, and remain in a tie with Richmond Strikers for first place. Monarchs have outscored opponents 36-4 on the season, while the Strikers have outscored opponents 28-7. The Monarchs face the Strikers in Richmond in the season's final game. Monarchs get their second straight shut-out and improved to 3-0-0 in league play. The Monarchs have been clicking on offense and defense in league play, outscoring their opponents 19-1. With nine points in the standings, the Monarchs moved into a first-place tie with Richmond Strikers Premier. United FC Puma came into the match undefeated in league play, and had not given up a goal on the season until the Monarchs scored in the 14th minute. The Monarchs converted a corner kick and a penalty kick for goals.

Weekend Recap

Monarchs dropped their State Cup match Saturday, 8-4, in Charlottesville. On Sunday, they defeated NNFC Revolution 11-0 in a VSL game, to improve to 2-0 in league play.

State Cup This Weekend


MONARCHS TO PLAY IN FIRST STATE CUP MATCH

The Monarchs will head to Charlottesville Saturday to compete in their firt Virginia State Cup match, against SOC Express. The State Cup features 35 teams from across the state, competing in a single-elimination format over several weeks. Winners advance each week, until a State Cup Champion is crowned. Monarchs are competing in the U-12 division. Click here for more State Cup information, including brackets and weekly schedule. The Monarchs also have a regular season Va. Soccer League match on Sunday at noon, at the Centerville complex in Chesapeake against Newport News Revolution. Monarchs enter the match 1-0-0 in league play.

Monarchs open the Va. Soccer League Spring season with a 4-1 victory. They never trailed, scoring two goals by the eighth minute, before giving up their only goal in the 12th minute. The defense drew six offsides on the Vipers.

Thursday (3/31): 5:30 short team practice and 6:00 scrimmage with CUSC Impact Friday (4/1): 6:00 practice at Georgetown Sunday (4/3): 1:15 match at Centerville (Field 11A). Wear white socks and white jersey (have blue jersey available). Please be at the field, ready to warm-up in gray practice jersey at 12:30.

2011 Va. Beach Spring Classic Champions



The Monarchs won two matches on Sunday and claimed the championship of the Va. Beach Spring Classic. They wrapped up round-robin play wth a hard-fought 2-1 victory over SVU Blue, out of Harrisonburg. That result locked-in a first place finish in round-robin play, and a championship match with the same SVU team. The teams battled to a 0-0 tie until the 59:20 mark of the 60-minute match, when the Monarchs scored the go-ahead and championship-clinching goal. They finished the tournament with four wins and no losses. For the tournament, they scored eight goals, while allowing two. Sunday's first victory was the Monarchs 100th all-time (The team now stands at 101-15-11 all-time)

Spring Classic Day 1

Monarchs are in 1st place, and picked up 6 points in the standings, at the end of day one of the Va. Beach Spring Classic:

The victories brought the Monarchs to 99 all-time wins, and they have a chance to reach the 100-win mark in the final day of tournament.

They finish round-robin play at 8 a.m. Sunday morning, and have already secured a spot in the championship game at 1:30 p.m.

Winter Catch-Up

Our site was a bit slow in updating during the Winter, but the Monarchs have been busy over the last several months. Some highlights:

CHESAPEAKE INDOOR CLASSIC
In December, they went undefeated and came out champions in the Chesapeake United indoor tournament. They notched a Monarch-record 19 goals in the tournament's first game and went on to outscore their opponents 31-12 for the tournament, which was decided in a thrilling multiple-overtime match with CUSC Vipers. BEACH FIELDHOUSE WINTER SEASON
The team participated in the Beach Fieldhouse indoor league over the winter, went undefeated in their division, and won the post-season championship game 5-3 over the CSL Revolution. They notched an impressive goal differential of +47 for the season! See the full standings and results here: CLICK

EAST COAST INDOOR CHAMPIONSHP
The team participated in the East Coast Indoor Championships, and finished with a 1-2-1 record. See full standings \ results here: CLICK

CHESAPEAKE ICEBREAKER
The Monarchs returned outdoors to compete in the Chesapeake Icebreaker Invitational, and came away champions and undefeated. They outscored their opponents 21-6 during the tournament. See full standings \ results here: CLICK
